Review: Crush. Candy. Corpse.

Crush. Candy. Corpse.
Crush. Candy. Corpse. by Sylvia McNicoll

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a very tragic yet humbling story of a teenager serving her time in an Alzheimer's unit helping victims. Sonja doesn't really what all she is struggling with until she volunteers her time in the unit and meets so many victims that touch her life and make her realize the mistakes that she is making in life.

Sonja bonds and forges friendships with the patients, staff and one of the patients grandchildren. During these friendships, Sonja starts to change and open her opinion about things that she thought were certain in her life. With her mother's earlier illness, she is approaching everyone as someone who is bound to leave her. This makes her distant and hard to get to know. That is until she lets you into her life.

Sonja thinks that all she needs is her hot boyfriend and fantastic best friend. Once she starts volunteering, she realizes that she needs more connections than that and some of her current connections are not right for her. She opens up to one of the resident's grandchildren, Cole. Cole and Sonja become close and together make small moments special for the patients helping make what life they have left full of quality.
